GP Education & Training

The primary responsibilities of this Project are to:

  • Support the development and implementation of Formal Agreements with Northern Territory General Practice Education (NTGPE) which is the Regional Training Provider (RTP),) and RACGP in relation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health training.

  • Support Aboriginal community controlled health services (ACCHSs) in the establishment and ongoing operation as GP Training Posts.

  • Monitor the implementation of the GPET Framework within ACCHSs in the NT.

  • Facilitate and participate in cultural education and continue to progress Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health training nationally.

  • Liaise with key GP organisation in the development and implementation of training and education programs for GPs employed within ACCHSs.

  • In collaboration with relevant GP organisations, support ACCHSs with recruitment and retention of GPs.

The main objectives of this Project are to:

  • Increase the number of active Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health training posts.

  • Raise awareness of the GPET Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Training Framework within the ACCHs by providing education about the Framework and developing information to assist with its implementation.

  • Develop and enhance partnerships between local Aboriginal groups and the Regional Training Provider - NTGPE (Northern Territory General Practice Training and Education).

  • Increase the capacity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to provide effective Aboriginal and Torres Strait education within RTP programs.

  • Transfer of skills to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander staff to ensure best standards of health training.

  • Develop and share enduring resources that are useful to the implementation of the Framework at the local and national levels.
